The Grand Daddy of Lake Tahoe’s mountains, a winter ski or summer hike

This is THE mountain in Lake Tahoe for hiking and backcountry skiing though it is long and somewhat difficult. In the winter the “skin track” up heads up the north ridge. To get there, park outside the Spring Creek summer home tract and walk in, then right to where you can see the mountain. There is avalanche danger on this mountain so pay attention to that, or go in spring when the avy danger is low.
This is mountain with the famous white “Cross” that you can see almost all year from the lake. I almost skied the cross, but now I’m too old and wise.

In summer there is a summer trail that heads up the south ridge from a summer trailhead parking lot. We’ve also skied this side in the spring by walking up the summer trail as far as possible then getting on the skis.
